Laton Alton Huffman (1854-1931) arrived in Miles City, Montana Territory in 1879 in time to document the beginning, middle and end of the open range era - and no one did it better. Huffman preferred to set up his traveling photo shop on the trail, to capture authentic action shots of cattle drives, roundups and typical ranch life.
Albumen print, photograph is rare a presentation photograph in green suede coverlet with brown silk interior. Probably Sioux in the Rosebud. It is titled "The Omaha Dance" - ceremonial celebration. This image is from the estate of Laton A. Huffman in 1979. Overall dimensions of frame are approximately 13.50" x 18.50".
Condition: Very fine, great contrast
