DescriptionOriginal Photo of Annie, Frank and Beloved Dog Dave Performing one of his Tricks. Photograph showing Annie and Frank allowing Dave, "the Red Cross Dog," to strut his stuff, perhaps during one of their War Bond tours in 1918. On the back, in Annie's hand, is the identification "Darling Dave." Dave was like a favorite child to Annie and Frank. When in 1923 he was hit by a car and killed, the Butlers mourned unashamedly. Frank wrote and published a booklet (a loving tribute to life with Annie as well as to Dave) entitled "Life of Dave, as told by Himself." Excellent condition, with minor residue from album mounting on verso. 7" x 5". This lot will be accompanied by a family letter of provenance.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.View More Testimonials
