MUST-HAVE CABINET OF APACHE CHIEF ALCHESAY AND HIS COUNCIL. This is an exceptional cabinet card of White Mountain Apache Chief Alchesay, posing with eight of his closest advisors. During the Apache Wars, Alchesay served as a scout for General Crook, and received a Congressional Medal of Honor for his part in convincing Geronimo to surrender to Crook's men. This handsome photograph was taken by Andrew Miller of Silver City, New Mexico, just a few years after Alchesay won the Medal of Honor. He is seen here holding his rifle, surrounded by eight of his men (also holding long guns), and a young boy - probably Alchesay's son - who also brandishes a weapon. In outstanding condition with negligible wear at corners, and fully intact gilt edging.Auction Info
