DescriptionMammoth Plate Albumen Photograph of Full Dressed 5th Infantry Indian Wars Officers, ca. 1880s. Vintage U. S. military officers in full dress uniforms in a wonderfully clear and detailed imperial size photograph. Depicts nine officers in various positions from seated to standing. Eight of these officers are wearing the 1872 pattern frock coats, with ranks from 1st Lt. through Lt. Colonel. These same officers wear the 1881 model dress helmet with yak hair plume, and full chest cords. Their shoulder knots appear to be the 1881 pattern with the high central pillow. A regiment '5' is evident on the shoulder knot pillows for most of the men. Interestingly, one of the officers wears a chapean style military hat and a military overcoat. He is obviously part of this regiment as a '5' can be seen on the right side of his head-gear. All men are wearing their sword belts, with swords proudly displayed by several. The central figure in this group is most likely a medical officer, as he is wearing a medical officer-style sword. Great content with superb detail. Measures approximately 18.5" x 14.5".
