Description

Large Format Photograph McLeod's Wild West Hot Springs, Arkansas ca 1890s - McLeod's, more commonly known as Happy Hollow, was a favorite spot for visitors and local residents from the late l880s to 1908. In 1908 McLeod sold his interest in Happy Hollow to Dave Anselberg. It was best known for the funny photographs that were taken there, showing visitors riding a burro, sitting in a bathtub, or visiting a saloon. Happy Hollow also had a zoo, a shooting gallery, and a souvenir shop. Norman McLeod began his business with the photo gallery. Most of his photographs tried to show life in the Wild West. He used life-sized models of cowboys, fat men, clowns, and other entertaining
characters. Here is a photograph of four tourists at the Happy Hollow amusement park. Man on left holding percussion rifle, with foot on large stuffed Beaver, next to him a White man with Indian outfit on holding a percussion revolver and holstering another revolver, next to him a women with single barrel shotgun holding a large turkey, and the last person holdings percussion rifle, stuffed varmint and foot on another wild animal. Just a great fun photograph. On verso a picture of McLeod, and a poem. Measures approximately 9.25" x 7.50".
