Jim and Bob Younger: A Rare Pair of Cabinet Photos from the Collection of Harry Hoffman. Taken in 1889 by Stillwater, Minnesota, photographer Kuhn, and copyrighted by the Younger's sister, Henrietta. At the time all three brothers were, of course, serving long sentences in Stillwater Prison.

Henrietta received permission from the prison warden to visit the brothers and bring in a photographer as well as suits to dress up the brothers. Most familiar to collectors is the image of all three along with Henrietta. These individual cabinets from the same sitting are much rarer: We have located one other example of each, but had not previously been familiar with these poses. The Jim Younger photo has a cut autograph glued on verso as originally kept. Names penned on the front of each were for I.D. purposes, and are not actual autographs.

The Bob Younger photo is in excellent condition except for minor tack hole damage at corners. The Jim Younger has a bit more cover damage and an old stain in the field as shown. The two photos were in the collection of Harry Hoffman and are listed on the 1945 inventory when he sold his collection to Frank Foster. Hoffman knew Cole Younger well, as is witnessed by the autographed photo and the Indian "peace pipe" he received directly from Cole.
