Historically Important Albumen View with Period Ink ID, "Prisoners after the fight of November 1887". 4 5/8" x 7 7/8" In November 1887, during the only Crow Indian revolt against the United States, firebrand "Sword Bearer" led some 300 Crow followers in an action against United States Cavalry units, resulting in Sword Bearer's death. On November 5, 1887, Deaf Bull, Crazy Head and six other young followers of Sword Bearer were transported to Ft. Snelling, Minnesota. This remarkable image doubtless depicts that event. The five mounted and two dismounted Crow Indians are flanked by two white outriders clearly serving as guards. Just some even fading, otherwise perfect condition with photo service labels on the verso. A very rare image.
