    Exceptional Cabinet Portrait by Gurney & Son of "Texas Jack" Omohundro, Famed Frontier Scout, Cowboy, and actor, Circa 1875 Serving as a Confederate courier during the Civil War, Omohundro subsequently resumed his life as a Texas cowboy, and acquired the moniker "Texas Jack" during cattle drives in the late 1860s. In 1869 he became a scout and buffalo hunter, befriending Buffalo Bill Cody. His subsequent success on the Wild West Show circuit, as well as becoming a dime novel legend, brought him worldwide fame. He died in 1880. Nice portrait with fur trimmed coat, cravat, incredible plumed hat, and large stag handled Bowie knife tucked in at his waist. Pristine condition with Gurney & Son 5th Ave. New York logo on the mount. Photo service labels on the verso.
