DescriptionExcellent Mountain Man Cabinet by G.W. McDonald, circa 1890-1895. Noted Western photographer George W. McDonald captured this likeness of an unknown mountain man brandishing a percussion rifle in the early 1890s, when he operated a photo studio at 12th and Larimer Streets in Denver, Colorado. The subject wears a fringed buckskin shirt and jeans, and sports lace-up shoes - an indication that he most likely was not a true mountain man or frontiersman, but had probably donned this outfit to impress some distant loved one. Affixed to McDonald's scallop- and gilt-edged photo mount with bears his imprint at the lower border. From the Emory A. Cantey Western Collection.
