DescriptionCutting's Prison-Jail and Barracks of Paso Del Norte, Mexico ca 1886-87 - Cabinet card image of "Cutting's Prison" in Paso Del Norte, Mexico. A.K. Cutting was a newspaperman who came to El Paso in 1884 and began to publish papers on both sides of the border, the other paper being in Paso Del Norte (presently called Juarez). He published slanderous remarks against some prominent leaders in Juarez, and was forced to print a retraction. However he simply re-published them in the El Paso Herald, inciting the authorities in Juarez to sentence him on Aug. 4, 1886 to one year in "prison". After about a month and a half and through legal discussions that included President Diaz of Mexico and U.S. President Cleveland, Cutting was released. This card was meant to record that incident and was probably made around the time. Measures approximately 8" x 4.75".

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.View More Testimonials
