    Description

Chief Joseph: Cabinet Card. Chief Joseph (1840-1904) was the chief of the Nez Perce tribe and resisted attempts at forced relocation. He was also an eloquent spokesman for his people and was part of a delegation that visited with President Rutherford B. Hayes in Washington, D.C. in 1879. It is likely that this photo was taken during that visit. There is no photographer's credit. It is a clean example with only slight aging.
