Description

Cabinet Cards Picturing Sharpshooter Duo "Prairie Flower" and "Chief Black Cloud." Two cabinet cards, each measuring approximately 2.75" x 5.5", picturing the sharpshooter team of the Oregon Indian Medicine Co. wild west show, circa 1888. The first is a studio portrait picturing "Chief Black Cloud," trick rifle-shooter, posed elaborately dressed in a heavily embroidered suit with his rifle at his side. The second, also a studio portrait, pictures "Prairie Flower", demonstrating a trick shot in which her rifle is pointed backwards over her shoulder, with only a hand mirror, held out in front of her, to guide her shot. She too is elaborately dressed in a heavily embroidered dress and jewelry. Both inscribed on verso in pencil, much of which is no longer legible due to apparent alterations to the edges of the cards. Both in fine condition, with the exception of a crease near the right edge of the Chief Black Cloud image. From the estate collection of E. F. Mueller.
