Arapaho Chief Little Raven and Daughter Anna: Albumen Cabinet Photograph by J.N. Choate, Circa 1880. Full-length studio portrait of Little Raven, the principal chief of the Southern Arapaho people, and his daughter, Anna, both in citizen's dress. Chief Little Raven was renowned for his powers of oration and his successful peace negotiation between the Southern Arapaho and several other Indian tribes, including the Plains Apaches. This photograph was taken as part of a series J.N. Choate shot of Indian Chiefs visiting the Indian Training School at Carlisle Barracks in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, where Little Raven's daughter Anna was a pupil. The Carlisle school was the first off-reservation Indian boarding school in the country, and the institution's mission was to assimilate Indian children from diverse tribes into one common culture. The list of all the Indian subjects Choate photographed for the series is printed on the verso, with Little Raven and Anna's names underscored in pencil. Some minor soiling and corner wear. One pin hole at the bottom of the image. 4.25" x 6.5".

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
