Description

    [Texas Rangers]. James William Durbin Cabinet Card, circa 1890. 4.25" x 6.25". This standing studio portrait of Texas Ranger Will "Tink" Durbin was taken a year after his marriage to Virginia Ann Sparks. Durbin served as a Texas Ranger in Frank Jones' Company D Frontier Battalion throughout the 1880s. He later served as a Deputy Sheriff in Denton County, Texas. Durbin's brother, Joseph Walter, also served as a Texas Ranger and Sheriff of Frio County, Texas, and their other brother W.E., also known as "Lish" served in the Denton Sheriff's Department. Verso ornately backstamped "J.T. Jones, Photo Artist, South Side Square, Denton Texas". Mild foxing and fading to photograph, some dampstaining on verso as well as pencil writing over backstamp. A previous collector has also written his name on the verso in modern ink. Provenance: Durbin Family, George Jackson Collection.
