    [Texas Rangers]. James William Durbin and James D. Sparks Cabinet Card, circa 1890. 4.25" x 6.5". A full standing studio portrait of Will "Tink" Durbin and his young brother-in-law Jim Sparks, both wearing gun belts. "Tink" Durbin served as a Company D Frontier Battalion Texas Ranger under Frank Jones throughout the 1880s. Durbin's brother, Walter, also served as a Texas Ranger and brother W.E. (also known as "Lish") served in the Denton Sheriff's Department. Recto stamped "Jones, Denton, Texas." Notes in pencil on verso read: "Jim Sparks, left and his brother-in-law Will 'Tink' Durbin, while a Deputy Sheriff in Denton County, Texas. Tink Durbin was Texas Range in 1888." Additional identifications in pencil, and a previous collector's name written in modern ink. Provenance: Durbin Family, George Jackson Collection.
