[Texas Rangers]. James Martin Sedberry Cabinet Card, circa 1885. 4.25" x 6". A sepia toned vignette portrait of Lieutenant James Martin Sedberry, who served in the Company "D" Frontier Battalion under Captain Daniel Webster Roberts. Backstamp identifies photographers as "Chapman & Ralph, North Side Gallery, North 2nd Street, Abilene, Texas." Signed on verso "Lieut. J. M. Sedberry Jan 85." Minor damage to upper right corner of photograph. A previous collector has written his name on the verso in modern ink. Provenance: George Jackson Collection.

Sedberry is perhaps best remembered for his involvement in the May 1881 semi-accidental killing of a troublesome drunk by a rookie Ranger named L. B. Wells, in Colorado City, Texas. The result was a public relations nightmare for the Texas Rangers. After an internal-affairs investigation by Ranger forces and a trial by jury in Abilene, Texas, Sedberry, Wells, and Ranger Jeff Davis Milton, who was also present at the shooting, were officially cleared of any wrongdoing, although the effect the incident had on public opinion of the Texas Rangers lingered.

Photograph featured in Winchester Warriors: Texas Rangers of Company D, 1874-1901 by Bob and James R. Alexander.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
