    [Texas Rangers]. Frontier Battalion Company "D" Boudoir Card, circa 1888. 8" x 5". A sepia toned albumen of eleven Texas Rangers of Company "D" under the command of Captain Frank Jones at their camp on Savage Ranch, near the town of Realitos in Duval County, in far south Texas. Jones is seated in front, will all of his Rangers standing behind him carrying rifles. Pictured are Rangers Ira Aten, Frank Louis Schmid, Jr., John Saunders, John R. Hughes, Joseph Walter Durbin, and Will "Tink" Durbin. Captain Jones was killed five years later at the hands of Mexican bandits near San Elizario, Texas, in June of 1893. His killers would later be brought to justice by Hughes, who assumed command of Company "D." Period note on verso reads, "Taken at Releatis Sta. March 1888 on Savage Ranch." Backstamped "J.W. Durbin" (ownership stamp of Ranger Joseph Walter Durbin). Photograph moderately faded with slight foxing. A previous collector has written his name on the verso in modern ink. Provenance: Durbin Family, George Jackson Collection.
