Description[Texas Rangers]. Creed Taylor Cabinet Card, circa 1890s. 4.25" x 6.5". In this studio photograph, the aged Texas Ranger sits while holding a cane in his right hand and resting his left arm on a stone podium. This cabinet card is stained; the lower right corner is bent. Ownership signature of James T. DeShields and biographical notations of Creed Taylor in the hand of John Warren Hunter appear on the verso. In 1907, Hunter sold DeShields his manuscript of the life of Creed Taylor. DeShields later published the work under the title Tall Men with Long Rifles, and is presented as Taylor's reminiscences as recorded by DeShields. It is quite probable that this is the is the actual original print used in DeShields' book, being that it bears his ownership signature and Hunter's notes.
Creed Taylor (1820-1906) joined the Texas Rangers under the command of Jack Hays in 1841 and fought Indians at the Bandera Pass. He served in the Texas Mounted Rangers under the command of Samuel Walker during the early months of the Mexican War. During the Civil War, he fought under Rip Ford.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.View More Testimonials
