Description[Texas Rangers]. Captain William Fitzhugh Cabinet Card, circa 1870. 4.25" x 6.5". Captain William Fitzhugh (1818-1883) served in Jack Hays' Texas Mounted Volunteers during the Mexican War as commander of Company "I", Fitzhugh's Company, from 1847 through 1849. After the war, he commanded Texas Ranger Company "D", Texas Mounted Volunteers, from 1854 through 1855. He later became a Ranger major. During the Civil War, he served Texas as a Confederate colonel. Penciled notations on verso. Provenance: James T. DeShields.
