    Cabinet Card of the First Public Railway Locomotive, 1857-1892. "Locomotion No. 1" of the Stockton and Darlington Railway hauled the world's first steam powered passenger train, which began service on September 27th 1825 in northeastern England. Locomotion remained in service until 1850. In 1857 it was placed on a pedestal in front of North Road station at Darlington, where this photo was taken and where it stayed until 1892.
