    More Information:

McCulloch first arrived in Texas in 1835. He fought at the Battle of San Jacinto and later joined the Texas Rangers under John Coffee Hays. During the Mexican War, McCulloch's Rangers provided invaluable scouting information to the US Army. McCulloch joined the Confederate Army when Texas seceded from the Union. He received a colonel's commission, and months later on May 11, 1861, he received an appointment as brigadier general. McCulloch was killed in action during the Battle of Pea Ridge.
