Beautiful Sixth Plate Ambrotype of Capt. George A. Barksdale, Quartermaster 16th Va. Inf. Along With His Original 1861 Appointment Signed By LeRoy Pope Walker As Secretary Of War Pristine quality and condition. Walker wears a double breasted frock coat with the rows of buttons rather closely spaced. There are no cuff facings and only a hint of his standup collar is visible with the rest being hidden by his beard. His trousers exhibit a wide dark stripe and he holds a photograph case in his hand. Coat clearly a 'homespun' product and utilizes an exterior breast pocket. Housed in a floral half case. 8" X 10" pre-printed document filled in with ink dated July 19, 1861 appointing Barksdale as Asst Quartermaster of the 16th Va. Regiment and signed by LeRoy Pope walker as Secretary of War. Old piece of paper attached to the left side where it was apparently once kept in a 'scrapbook' but the document is intact and in fine condition. Also included is a sixth plate ambrotype of Barksdale's wife in fair condition housed in a floral leather case hinge split. This piece was originally part of the Gen. Wickham lot listed elsewhere in this catalog, and the ID, in addition to the intrinsic material included, is based on information contained in that lot that Barksdale married Gen. Wickham's sister. Another great Confederate ambrotype with excellent provenance/ID.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
