Armed Sixth Plate Confederate Ambrotype. Great subject and fine quality but the image displays some condition issues. Subject wears gray combination battleshirt / jacket that appears to have four buttons, tinted gilt, on the torso section, and no buttons below the belt line. There is a wide black stripe that is next to the buttons from the collar to the bottom of the skirt. Wears belt with rectangular buckle, tinted gilt, cap box and cartridge box. Holds M1842 musket with bayonet fixed at his side. Regretfully around the edges of the image there is some crackling of the emulsion and some flaking, although from that point in, the emulsion appears to be tight and will likely not deteriorate any further. Mat, frame and glass, no case. A great Confederate image that would look dramatically better rematted.

From the estate of Houston collector Brent Burg.
