    A photograph of an unidentified African American woman, wearing a long black and white dress and standing outside the Franklin Savings Bank. Behind her is a small child sitting on the ground next to an elderly man whose hat reads "Have Faith In God".

    Barboza, a member of the Kamoinge Workshop, is best known for his studio photographs of famous singers and jazz musicians throughout the 1970s and 1980s, he also had a talent for capturing striking images on the streets of New York. His photos have appeared in prominent magazines such as LIFE Magazine, The New Yorker, and Vogue, and his work can be seen at the Brooklyn Museum in New York, The National Portrait Gallery in Washington D.C., the Museum of Modern Art in NYC, and numerous other museums.

    The Kamoinge Workshop is an ongoing collective of African-American photographers seeking artistic equality and exposure for their work. It was founded in New York in 1963 at the height of the Civil Rights movement and remains active to the present day. Over the years, its membership has included such noted photographers as Roy DeCarava, Louis Draper, Shawn Walker, Anthony Barboza, Ming Smith and many others.
