    James F. Randlett Ambrotype, Las Cuevas War-Related, showing a knees-up view of Randlett in uniform standing before the camera with his arms folded. The case shows only slight wear; unhinged. James Randlett enlisted at the outbreak of the Civil War. He served in the New Hampshire Third Infantry and was severely wounded in May 1864 at Drewry's Bluff, Virginia. Later, as a colonel in November 1875, he participated in the Las Cuevas War, which pitted a group of Texas Rangers against a group of Mexican militia. The conflict was over stolen cattle and occurred less than fifteen miles from the Texas border.
