    Description

Half Plate Ambrotype of a Confederate Officer Likely Texas. Wears coarse weave gray single breasted frock coat with dark standup collar exhibiting gilt tinted insignia of a 1st Lieutenant. Sword belt with over the shoulder sling and two piece buckle, with unidentified central motif. Revolver in holster on belt and holds foot officer style sword at his side. Stacks of books on the pedestal next to him with kepi with rain cover on top. Fine quality, but considerable scattered spotting although most of it is in the background. Mounted in a period passe partout mount. The name "Fred Glasgow / Burns Texas" is stamped on the back. While clearly much later than the image, it may provide a clue as to the ID of the subject. Despite the condition a very impressive Confederate image.
