    Description

    Great Early War Quarter Plate Ruby Ambrotype of Young Federal Infantryman, with period pencil script ID behind image of "William G. Waymire / Delphi / 1861". The image however, has been identified as Austin Waymire of Delphi, Ind. , William apparently being a relative with no one by that name serving during the war. Austin enlisted in the 46th Indiana 11/7/61. He was wounded at Magnolia Holls, Ms. on 5/1/63 and died of those wounds on 5/17/63. Wears unusual form black slouch hat, frock coat and full set of equipment with revolver holster on belt. Holds M1822 musket with bayonet fixed at his side. Some minor bluing around the edge, not affecting subject, else very fine quality and condition. In original nice full leather case.
