Allen Parmer: A Photo of this Former Quantrill Raider and Brother-in-Law of Jesse and Frank. Period identification on verso. He is pictured with his children Dorothy Rose and Allen Parmer Rose, presumably named after him. Parmer's first wife was the James' sister Susan, who died in 1888.

Parmer joined Quantrill at the age of thirteen at the outset of the War, and was with him in Kentucky when he was shot, not surrendering to authorities until July 26, 1865, several months after the War ended. Purportedly Parmer killed twenty-three men in the Lawrence, Kansas, raid.

After the War, Parmer was suspected of being a James gang member and was once arrested for a train robbery, but released. He spent his last decades as a prosperous farmer and lived until 1927. The photo is 6" x 7" and in excellent condition with light surface soiling.
