Abraham Lincoln: The President and His Son Tad. 10" x 14" albumen photograph custom framed to an overall size of 16" x 20". Listed in "Lincoln in Photographs" by Hamilton and Ostendorf as O-114, and was taken at Alexander Gardner's Washington, DC studio on February 5, 1865. This is one of the last photographs taken of Lincoln as he was assassinated a little over 2 months after this sitting. The ravages of war had taken its toll physically on Lincoln. He aged dramatically during his less than five years in office. He was only 56 years old when this image was taken. Lincoln is sitting holding a book while his young son Tad gazes up at his father. More often than not this image is heavily artistically touched up, that is not the case with this example. Moreover, this image is typically seen in a Carte de Visite format, and not this seldom offered large format. The albumen has nice subtle tones and good contrast and is in fine condition.
