    Description

Abraham Lincoln: Large Albumen of Second Inauguration. 13.25" x 10" albumen affixed to the original 18.25" x 14.25" mount. O-109, taken by an unknown photographer, possibly Gardner, on March 4, 1865. It depicts President Lincoln delivering his second inaugural address. Some of the dignitaries include Hannibal Hamlin, Andrew Johnson and Chief Justice Chase. Almost directly below the President appears assassination conspirator Lewis Powell (a.k.a. Payne) and, above, in front of the second column on the right, someone who bears a strong resemblance to John Wilkes Booth. A black horizontal mark to the right of Powell is a touch-up to the negative while a few nicks or abrasions in the upper left corner have been touched up. Ostendorf lists seven different variants of this basic image, all of which are rare and desirable. The most recent sale, by a prominent photography dealer, was $14,000. Matted and framed. From the collection of Dr. Michael Krane.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
