Abraham Lincoln Cartes de Visite (2). Each one measures approximately 2.4" x 4". Known as the "Ink Well" portraits, Abraham Lincoln sat for Alexander Gardner in Mathew Brady's studio less than two weeks after his inauguration in February 1861. There are five variants of this image; offered here are two copies of O-49a. Lincoln is seated at a table with his right hand in his lap and the left draped down over the arm of the chair; the brim of his top hat is barely visible in the right of the frame. Mounted on variant mounts, bit with E. Anthony/Brady imprints on verso.

Condition: Both images are clean, with untrimmed mounts. Mount with red trim has retained a highly saturated albumen, with slight discoloration vertically across the center and period identification on verso. Mount with gilt border has light scuffing to the surface of the image.
