26th Regiment Infantry Soldier Carte de Visite. 2.5" x 4", with a W.H. Jennings, Norwich, Connecticut imprint on verso. An officer is posed standing in front of a regimental flag in a studio setting. The flag appears to have its stars arranged in the shape of a star with the dates "1776 1862", the number "26" and part of a word beginning with the letters "G R". The 26th Regiment Infantry was organized in Norwich, Connecticut on November 10, 1862, and shipped out to New Orleans two days later. They were involved with the siege at Port Hudson. Mustered out on August 17, 1863, they suffered 145 deaths throughout the course of the war, with 90 lost to disease. From the Bret J. Formichi American Civil War Rarities Collection.

Condition: Toning throughout, with worn corners. There is a small spot of soiling at the lower right corner on the officer's pant leg. Small pencil notation on verso, else very good.
