[Texas Rangers]. Photograph of Captain William L. Wright and Several Rangers, circa 1925. Measuring 10.5" x 8", this sepia toned, silver print image from "Serrano Studio" of Laredo, Texas, features Capt. Wright sitting astride his horse at left. Wright, who resembles Theodore Roosevelt, sports a thick mustache and glasses, a Colt revolver strapped to his hip, and batwing chaps. A lever action rifle sits securely within reach in his saddle scabbard. To his left are five of his men, also on horseback and heavily armed. Spots of staining along the lower edge and one larger spot at upper left. Pin holes at the upper right corner and at the lower edge. Upper and lower right corners bent.

William Lee Wright (1868-1942) began his career in law enforcement as a deputy sheriff in Wilson County, Texas, before joining the Texas Rangers' Frontier Battalion in 1898 under Captain John Rogers. After four years in the Rangers, he returned to Wilson County and served fifteen years as sheriff. In 1917, Wright returned to the Rangers, this time as captain of Company "D," patrolling the Mexican border during the First World War and battling tequila smugglers from Mexico during Prohibition. He retired from the Rangers a second time in the early 1930s, but made one final return, serving again until his final retirement at the age of 71.
