[Nevada Mining]. Photo of Silver Top Mine by Tibbitts, circa 1908. Black and white photograph on muslin-backed paper. 8" x 6", mounted to an overall size of 10.75" x 9". Howard C. Tibbitts was a photographer for the Southern Pacific Railroad for over forty years. Image shows mining structures, including two headframes. Electrical power lines are visible in background. Written in pencil on the mounting paper beneath the photograph: "Silver Top Mine - Tonopah - Nevada." The discovery of silver in the region in 1900 spurred one of the biggest mining booms in the state, and Tonopah was known as the "Queen of the Mining Camps." Mounting paper has some toning and buckling.
