    Description

[Carleton Watkins]: Glass Slides of Photographs of Yosemite. Thirty-eight glass slides of photographs by Carleton Watkins in square and rectangular format, mostly 3.35" x 4", both black & white and sepia toned. The slides are housed in a wooden case; slides are numbered and an index of the titles is located on the interior of the lid.. The photographs were taken by Watkins during the 1860s-1880s and include some of his most famous images: "Leaning Tower", "Sentinel Dome", "Three Brothers", and "Face of Temple Rock". Watkins' majestic images of Yosemite helped influence Congress to establish the valley as a National Park. All of the slides have excellent contrast and detail.
