(Andrew Johnson): Large Albumen Photograph Of Impeachment Managers. Amazing albumen photograph by Mathew Brady, dated 1868, and taken at his Washington, DC studio. The image measures 14 1/4" x 17", and overall 16 1/2" x 17 7/8" including the titled mount. When this image does appear on the market it is always in Carte de Visite format, not this large size. The mount is titled "Managers of the House of Representatives of the Impeachment of Andrew Johnson". All the managers names are listed, including Benjamin Butler, James Wilson, Thaddeus Stevens, George Boutwell, Thomas Williams, John Logan, and John Bingham. There is some damp staining at the right edge of the image and into the lower right mount, and some other light scattered age. These issues could be easily cleaned by a restorer if one choose to do so. But due to the rarity and size of the piece, we feel these issues can be over looked. A spectacular image. The Eric C. Caren Collection.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
