    Description

    YANKEES SIGNED BALL.

It's impossible to provide a definitive explanation for the circumstances of this ball's signing.  It's an OAL (Harridge) that bears 26 New York Yankee signatures - all of whom played in the Bronx in the 1950's, but not necessarily in the same season.  Further complicating its heritage is that it holds two signatures of Whitey Ford - one a nearly deled 'clubhouse,' and another ("Ed Ford") which has been satisfactorily authenticated.  (And indeed, so have all the others.)  Occupying the sweet spot are Allie Reynolds and Yogi Berra, and the remaining signatures include Slaughter, Skowron, Sain, Jerry Coleman, Tom Morgan, Konstanty, Rizzuto, Jim McDonald, Silvera, Art Schallock, Harry Byrd, Noren, Bauer, Cerv, Eddie Robinson, Grim, Miranda, McDougald, Lopat, Mantle (6), Andy Carey and one other.  With reasonable consistancy, the strength of these signatures ranges 5-8.  Please note: Due to the size and/or weight of this lot, additional shipping costs may apply.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
