Wyatt Earp: Bank Draft for Wyatt Earp's Lawyer. A Pima County Bank (Tucson) draft, 8.25" x 3.5", "No. 6090", dated December 28, 1881. For the amount of $984.38 payable to Thomas Fitch. The check is signed by Barron L. Jacobs, cashier of the bank and it bears the stamp, in red ink, of the Pacific Bank, San Francisco, with the date December 31, 1881. Thomas Fitch's signature is on the back of the check. The day the check was written, December 28, 1881, was the same day that Virgil Earp was shot as he crossed a street in Tombstone, leaving him without the use of his left arm for the rest of his life. Thomas Fitch (1838-1923), known as the Silver Tongued Orator," was a lawyer and politician who defended Wyatt Earp, his brothers, and Doc Holiday at the inquest after the famous shootout near the O.K. Corral. The Earp brothers and Holiday were acquitted of murder. This is a real nice item with great association value. The check has a slight tear on the back and suffers from some discoloration, but overall it's in good condition.
