Wells, Fargo & Company: Rare Postal Cover and Enclosure. Three Wells Fargo items relating to establishing a new office in Bisbee, Arizona Territory. 1) Express cover with "Agent Wells, Fargo & Co's Express" on the cover with "Florence, A.T." written in ink, 6" x 3.5" and torn on the right hand side where it was opened. 2) Wells Fargo Express cover addressed to "Mr. Geo. A. Brown, Florence, A.T. Personal" written in ink, 6" x 3.5" and torn on right side where it was opened. There is no postage on either cover, indicating that it was probably delivered via Wells Fargo mail pouch by a stage coach. 3) Enclosure from #2 above, which is a notice from Wells Fargo, dated January 8, 1881, informing agent in Florence that the company has established an office in Bisbee along with shipping rates. The form, 5 5/8" x 3 3/8", is printed Wells Fargo document and filled in with ink. The form is from John J. Valentine (1840-1901), General Superintendent and later first President of Wells Fargo Express Company. George A. Brown was Florence's first Wells Fargo agent, serving from 1877-1903). The three items are in good condition.
