    War of 1812 Newspapers. Group of early newspapers, as follows: 1) August 1, 1813 issue of the Boston "Weekly Messenger" with news about Commodores Perry and Rodgers and the victory gained at Lake Erie, 2) October 28, 1813 issue of the "Portsmouth" [NH] Oracle (marked "Columbia Society" in ink above masthead) with letter from Isaac Chauncey, news on the Battle of Lake Ontario and the launching of torpedoes from a British prisoner-of-war ship, 3) July 2, 1813 issue of "The Weekly Messenger" with extended coverage of the casualties from the "Chesapeake" and the funeral of her captain, James Lawrence, and 4) July 9, 1813 issue of "The Weekly Messenger" with news about the capture of the "Chesapeake" and General Boyd's defeat at Fort George, near Buffalo. Two are the papers have "T. Blood" written in ink above the mastheads. Condition is uniformly excellent. Each paper is four pages (a large sheet folded in half).
