    This very large lot contains a host of Maugham-related materials, most of which focus on the Hollywood film adaptations of Maugham's works, including:

Still sealed. [and:] The Painted Veil (1934). [and:] The Secret Agent (Hitchcock's adapation of Ashenden, 1936). [and:] The Beachcomber (with rental markings, 1938). [and:] The Beachcomber (aka Vessel of Wrath, 1938). [and:] Another copy. This one still sealed. [and:] The Letter (1940). [and:] The Moon and Sixpence (1942). Still sealed. [and:] Christmas Holiday (two copies, professionally duplicated, 1944). [and:] Dirty Gertie from Harlem (an all-black cast in an unauthorized adaptation of "Miss Thompson," 1946).     Two Stage-Related Items: Memento of the 250th Performance of "Lady Frederick" at the Criterion Theatre, 3rd June, 1908. The play that launched Maugham's career as a playwright. Contains an engraved plate of star Ethel Irving. Signed by Irving. [and:] Ethel Barrymore Radio Tribute produced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, 1949. Includes birthday greetings from many stars and short speeches from many others, including Somerset Maugham. Transferred to a 33 1/3 lp.
