    Description

    W. Somerset Maugham. Typed Letter Signed, with Studio Portrait by Pach Bros. One framed piece containing: Signed letter on Villa Mauresque stationery. [and:] A very handsome photographic portrait. Matted, glazed and framed. Near fine.

    More Information:

This lot consists of one matted, glazed, and framed piece measuring 16 x 12 inches containing: Typed letter signed, to a Mr. Gunnell, dated March 22, 1957, on Villa Mauresque stationery. A couple of minor imperfections to paper. Very good. [with:] A photographic portrait of Maugham, surely one of his most flattering, from the fashionable New York studio of Pach Bros. The studio's name is embossed in gold in the lower right area of the photograph. Fine.

In the letter, Maugham discusses the perils of a double inheritance tax should he decide to remain a resident of France, a matter about which he would have been much concerned, considering that he was 83 years old when he wrote this letter.

From the Collection of Norman F. Moore.
