In 1926, Ty Cobb announced his retirement - effective at season's end.  He was now 39, but still a dependable.300 hitter.  The news was not easily rationalized, yet the January 1927 issue of Baseball Magazine featured Cobb and presented a thoroughly glowing article, to include an interview.  It's now widely speculated that he and Tris Speaker were under the Commissioner's microscope.  Though not widely publicized, both were accused of fixing a game in 1919, and when the rumor leaked in '26, both were discreetly released.  In 1927, Landis exonerated them, and Cobb signed on with Connie Mack.  This offered Jan. 1927 Baseball Magazine was issued in that interim, and it's only logical that Cobb, at that point, was grievously worried that his fate would go the way of Shoeless Joe.  That little-known chapter of history is embodied in this issue -- and a beauty it is!  The only objection is a very small spot of errant ink on the cover.  Otherwise, there's little wear at the corners and not a crease to be found.  Solid spine and clean pages.  EX/MT-NM.
