Two Republic of Texas Documents: One Auditor's Certificate and One Treasury Warrant, Both Signed by Comptroller James B. Shaw. Each is near 6" x 3.5", December 5, 1840, and December 18, 1844. Both are numbered and fine.

    More Information:

James Shaw migrated to Texas in 1837. He served as comptroller of Texas from 1839 through 1859; in that position, he oversaw many large financial transactions between Texas and the U.S. Federal Government.

The auditor's certificate (December 5, 1840) is signed by Auditor Musgrove Evans, father of Samuel B. Evan who died at the Alamo. "Cancelled" is written across the face of the certificate.

The payee of the treasury warrant (December 18, 1844) is "Moses Johnson assignee of sundry persons". The reason for the warrant is "for Pay and Mileage of Members of Congress". At the time, Johnson, a former mayor of Austin, was the treasurer of the Republic of Texas. Moses Johnson has endorsed the verso.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
