Two Civil War Era New Orleans Newspapers including: National Advocate. Vol. 1, No. 12, two pages, 18" x 23.5", New Orleans, July 9, 1862. Published early in the war and after the fall of New Orleans. Contains various bits of war news. Heavily chipped along the left edge; some staining and toning. Very good. [and:] National Advocate. Vol. 1, No. 8, two pages, 18" x 23.5", New Orleans, June 30, 1862. The front page contains an "Address to the People of Louisiana" reading in part: "The occupation by the enemy of a portion of the territory of our State imposes upon us new and unaccustomed responsibilities." The article goes on to discuss such topics as "communication with citizens of occupied places," "using the enemy's passport," "spies, salaried informers and Tories," and others. Edges are heavily chipped with some foxing and toning present. There is a small hole on the right side that obscures the text, but in very good condition.

Both papers carry the mission statement of the paper on the front page which reads, in part: "It [the National Advocate] will advocate the political doctrines of Jefferson and Jackson, relying implicitly on the ballot-box to correct all the evils to which we are now and have been subject, terminate the present war, and restore the ascendancy of the Democratic party, when there will not be any further interference with the institutions of the South. It should be considered treason to debate in Congress the subject of slavery."

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
