Trio of Early 19th Century Temperance and Woman's Rights Pamphlets, Circa 1835-1853. Though issues involving drinking and women's rights seem quaint by today's standards, they were hotly contested concepts in the 19th Century. Included in the lot: 1) Vol. III, No. 11 of the Temperance Recorder printed in Albany, [New York], January, 1835. Eight pages of parables and real life events illustrating the evils of drink. Light scattered foxing, tatty along the edges and with a few splits in the fold, else very good condition. 2) "The Responsibilities of Woman", a transcript of a speech given by Mrs. C. I. H. Nichols at the Woman's Rights Convention in Worcester, Massachusetts on October 15,1851. 18 pages, stitch bound, 4.5" x 7.5", some light toning, otherwise excellent condition. 3) "Woman and Her Wishes. An Essay" by Thomas Wentworth Higginson. Stitch bound, 4.5" x 7.5", 32 pages, circa 1853, scattered light foxing, otherwise in excellent condition. From the Judith Kaplan Women's History Collection.
