    Treasury Warrant Issued to James A. Caldwell for Providing Mail Services. Partly printed form, 5.5" x 3.5"; Austin, December 9, 1841. Treasury warrant number 3934 is issued to James A. Caldwell in the amount of $1000.00 for "Services as a Mail Contractor for 3 Qr. [Quarters]." Caldwell, in partnership with Silas Cheek Colville, had postal contracts with the Republic of Texas for much of East Texas. Endorsement signature on verso. From the Robert E. Davis Collection.
    Condition: Light toning, a bit darker along the bottom. Ink stains along right edge, and a few tiny chips at bottom edge.
