1957 TOPPS "SPACE CARDS" NEAR SET. In late 1957 to early ‘58, Topps distributed a perplexing non-sport card issue. Hobbyists at the time acknowledged the release of an 88- card production called "Space Cards," but these were also presented with the title "Target: Moon." The two issues were exact twins in every respect. except for their identity. The sequence of their appearance is moot. For that matter, they were possibly retailed at the same time. To the production’s credit, the imagery is colorful, and the futuristic narratives are creative. While our title for this catalog entry states that this is a ‘near set,’ all 88 cards are indeed represented here. And all are the "Space Cards" variety except the four numbers 40, 51, 65 and 72, which are "Target: Moon." About three cards in this set are VG-VG/EX, and another ten are EX. The remaining are minimally EX/MT. (# This item may require additional shipping charges).
