Approximately 220 deposit slips, 3.5" x 5.5", virtually all dating from October 1886, tied in string, from the Cochise County Bank, Tombstone, Arizona Territory. A number of leading businesses in and around Tombstone, such as J. Goldwater & Company and L. W. L. Mellgren, Tombstone City treasurer; and Lionel M. Jacobs (1840-1922) who, along with his younger brother Barron M. Jacobs (1846-1936), managed the Agency Pima County Bank, which became the Cochise County Bank in 1882. The bank closed in 1890 due to Tombstone depressed economic situation. A rare collection of Tombstone banking documents. The deposit slips are tied with old string and some of the slips are held together by pins and brass clips. We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
