    Tombstone, Arizona: Postal Covers of Famous Tombstone Lawmen. Four postal covers from the offices of Tombstone lawmen. 1) Return address of J. H. Slaughter, Sheriff Cochise County, Tombstone , Arizona, stamped "Tombstone 6 Jul 1889" on the front and "Florence Arizona July 7, 1889" on the back. John Horton Slaughter (1841-1922) was elected Sheriff of Cochise County in 1886 and was reelected for a second term. He was also known as a talented poker player. A 6" x 3.5" envelope, torn on right edge where opened. 2) Return address of Harry C. Wheeler, Sheriff of Cochise County, Tombstone, Arizona, stamped "Tombstone May 15, 1914." A 6.5" x 3.5" envelope. Harry Cornwall Wheeler (1875-1925) was elected Sheriff of Cochise County in 1911 and was reelected in 1914 and 1916. 3) Return address of Scott White, Sheriff, Tombstone, Arizona, stamped "Tombstone Jul 12 1897." A 6" x 3.5" envelope torn on left edge where it was opened. Scott White (1856-1935) served as Cochise County Sheriff from 1894 to 1894 and later from 1897-1900. He also was Arizona's Secretary of State from 1931- 1932. 4) Return address "W.K Meade" Tombstone, Cochise County, Arizona, stamped "Tombstone Feb 27 1892" on the front and "Richmond [Virginia] 1892" on back. A 6.25" x 3.5" envelope slit open on right hand side. William Kidder Meade (1851-1918) served as U.S. Marshall of Arizona Territory from 1885 to 1890. The Slaughter postal cover is worn, but overall in good condition. The other three postal covers are in fine condition.
